How Our Mental and Behavioral Health Service Works

Mental health care is not just about prescribing medication.
It’s about understanding why symptoms exist — and choosing treatment based on an accurate diagnosis, not guesswork.
That’s where physician training matters most. Because Psychiatry Is Medical Care.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who has completed:
-
Medical school
-
Full medical training across the entire body
-
Specialized residency in psychiatry
-
Additional fellowship training for child and adolescent psychiatry
-
Ongoing board certification and continuing education
This means psychiatrists are trained to think medically — not only psychologically.
Many conditions that appear psychiatric can be influenced by:
-
sleep disorders
-
hormonal changes
-
neurological differences
-
medical illness
-
substance effects
-
developmental factors
Understanding these connections is part of medical training — and often essential for getting treatment right.

Prescribing medication is only a small part of psychiatry.
The most important step is accurate diagnosis.
When diagnosis is clear, treatment tends to work better.
When diagnosis is off, people can spend years frustrated — trying medication after medication without real improvement.
Diagnosis affects:
-
school success
-
career performance
-
confidence and self-understanding
-
long-term outcomes
That’s why psychiatric evaluation isn’t just a visit — it’s an investment in clarity.
We work with a small, carefully selected caseload so we can provide:
-
Thorough evaluations
-
Thoughtful diagnostic formulation
-
Careful treatment planning
-
Time to listen and think
-
Accessibility when it matters
We primarily work with:
-
Children and Adolescents
-
College students
-
Professionals
Because these stages of life often carry high stakes — academically, professionally, and emotionally.

Not Everyone Needs a Specialist — And That’s Okay
We believe strongly that not every person needs expert-level psychiatric care.

Many individuals do very well with:
-
therapy
-
coaching
-
primary care
-
supportive mental health services
And that’s exactly how it should be.

Specialists exist not because everyone needs one —
but because some situations are more complex.

When a Psychiatrist May Be Helpful
You might consider seeing a psychiatrist if:
-
You feel your diagnosis doesn’t quite fit
-
Treatment hasn’t worked despite multiple attempts
-
Symptoms keep changing or overlapping
-
School or work functioning is being affected
-
You want a thoughtful second opinion
-
You want clarity before making long-term decisions
In these moments, deeper medical training can make a meaningful difference.

Free 10-Minute Consultation
We begin with a complimentary 10-minute telehealth conversation so you can ask questions, share concerns, and decide whether our approach feels right for your family— You don’t need to know exactly what you’re looking for. Sometimes clarity starts with a conversation.
You don’t need to commit as We May Not Be the Right Fit — And That’s Part of Good Care
We believe good psychiatry includes knowing when not to treat.

If we believe your needs would be better served by:
-
therapy alone
-
psychological testing
-
coaching
-
or another specialist
We will say so — and help guide you to the right care.

That’s part of ethical practice.

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation – $600
The initial evaluation lasts approximately 50–75 minutes and goes well beyond a brief intake. This visit includes a detailed assessment of emotional, behavioral, developmental, and academic/career concerns, as well as family, cultural, and psychosocial factors.

Following the visit, you will receive a thorough written evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations. This documentation can be shared with schools, therapists, pediatricians, or future providers, even if you choose not to continue ongoing care with us. Many families find this clarity invaluable for educational planning, accommodations, and long-term decision-making.

Follow-Up Visits (30 minutes) – $250
For those that require ongoing care, follow-up appointments provide continued guidance, medication management when appropriate, and collaboration with families, therapists and primary care providers as needs evolve. These visits, usually every 2-3 months, are structured to support steady progress and thoughtful adjustments over time.

Our goal is to offer care that is not only compassionate and individualized, but also meaningful, practical, and lasting—supporting you and your child today while laying a strong foundation for tomorrow.

A Final Thought
Psychiatry is about understanding the brain, development, and the full medical picture — so treatment supports your goals, not just your symptoms.
You don’t have to see us. But if you’re feeling stuck, frustrated, or unsure about your current mental health care — we’re happy to talk.
If we can help, we will. If not, we’ll help point you in the right direction.
That’s how care should work.
